5th Annual Lee's Friends Run on the Wild Side

Join us for the 5th Annual Lee's Friends Run on the Wild Side run at Norfolk Zoo. There will be a 5K run/walk that starts and finishes outside the Zoo and loops through the quiet Riverview neighborhood on the Lafeyette River.

There is also a kids half mile race that takes place inside the Zoo. All children receive commemorative finisher award medals.

Enjoy a fun and festive post race party inside the zoo grounds with free all day access to the zoo for all participating family members. This event benefits Lee's Friends a local charity assisting families living with cancer. We hope to see you there.

Coach Ed Lowery XC Bash 5K/1Mile

June, 21st 2008 Bells Mill Park, Chesapeake, Virginia
It’s time to break out the XC shoes once again for a great cause at a great XC venue.

Ed Lowery was a husband, father, friend and a coach to many. Most recently Ed had been at Ocean Lakes High School coaching girls' basketball and track. Before that, he was an assistant women's basketball coach at Old Dominion University and held girls' basketball head coaching positions at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and Oscar Smith High School where he also coached track. He volunteered as a basketball coach for both his children while they attended St. Matthew's Grade School. He was born in Newport News and graduated from Old Dominion University.

For the last two years Ed had courageously fought a battle against lymphoma. Never complaining, he was always inspiring with his actions and words. He not only coached kids in their sports, but taught them life lessons as well. Coach Ed Lowery died on March 31st, and leaves behind his wife Nikki and his two children. Jenna is a senior at Ocean Lakes High School and Chaz is a freshman. He has touched so many and given so much! Funds generated from this race will help to cover Ed's medical bills and assist his children in their collegiate endeavors.

Come out and celebrate the spirit of this great man at the Ed Lowery XC Bash at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.
